Downed Tree High Winds and Trees Don't Mix!

Knowing the amount of damage to your home or commercial property will help you when the adjuster arrives to assess your property loss.  Depending on the situation, insurance adjusters may be very busy and may not get to you for several days.  Being prepared prior to their arrival will save the both of you time and headaches.

After you’ve reported your claim to the insurance company, your next call should be to a restoration company like SERVPRO of Dearborn Heights North/East Garden City.  We understand how insurance companies operate and will help guide you through the process, letting you know what to expect.  Contacting us can also benefit you in the following ways:

  • You’ll receive an initial assessment of storm damages.
  • There will be less time between initial damage and water extraction, preventing further damages. Often, secondary damage can be just as bad as the direct damages caused by the loss.
  • You’ll have an itemized list of everything damaged by the storm, which you will need for the insurance claim.
  • You’ll have photos of any of noted damages, which will help improve your ability to get the claim accepted.

The workload caused by heavy storms can often overwhelm adjusters which may compromise their time and ability to get to you quickly.  By preparing prior to their arrival with the storm damage documentation, along with having contacted SERVPRO, your adjuster will have an easier time getting things done and will be happier about doing them.  At SERVPRO of Dearborn Heights North/East Garden City, we’re ready for an emergency situation all the time, so the chances of them getting to you quicker than the adjuster are high.

Don't Forget Your Pets

Pets Are Family Too!

When you're developing an emergency plan for your home and family, don't forget to plan for your pets.  A good pet plan starts before the disaster.  Have a current picture. Make sure your pet's vaccinations are up to date and know where the records are.  They may be necessary if your pet has to go to a pet shelter.  Have a collar with ID tag and leash handy.  During the disaster, bring your pets indoors well in advance of the storm - reassure them and remain calm.

After the disaster, walk your pet on a leash until they become re-acquainted to their home.  Often, familiar scents and landmarks may be altered and pets could become confused and get lost.  Also, downed power lines, predators, and other debris washed in by high water can all pose a threat to animals after a disaster.  If pets cannot be found, contact the local shelters.  Have a picture of your pet handy.

Be prepared by having a Pet Disaster Supply Kit containing proper identification including vaccination records; an ample supply of food and water; a carrier or cage; medications; muzzle, collar or leash.

Should you suffer from any size disaster, call SERVPRO of Dearborn Heights North/East Garden City at (313) 228-5134.  Working to make it "Like it never even happened."
